Last Fall, the Stronger Workplaces for a Stronger Economy Act, 2014 was passed, which in turn has amended the Employment Standards Act, 2000 (ESA). The amendments reduce the hurdles faced by employees who seek a remedy through the Ministry of Labour however has also established several important deadlines including an Employer posting requirements. One of the proposed amendments under Bill 18 takes effect June 19th, 2015 requiring Employers to provide a personal copy of the Ministry of Labour’s Employment Standards Poster; to all current employees no later than June 19, 2015. Employees hired after May 20, 2015 must be given a copy no later than 30 days after the date of hire.
Lunchroom postings are now officially a thing of the past. We strongly recommend that all employer clients ensure that they record compliance to respond to any challenge by the Ministry of Labour.
